Often accused of being the beginning of the disco craze with "TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)", this group of as many as thirty studio musicians assembled under the leadership of songwriters/producers Gamble & Huff and their Philadelphia International label. Much like (but much larger than) Motown's infamous Funk Brothers backing musicians, they provided the necessary background to artists such as Teddy Pendergass, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, the O'Jays, the Spinners, Billy Paul and many more--the only difference being that MFSB carved out their own reps with great (mostly instrumental) albums such as this one and "Philadelphia Freedom", and the Funk Brothers (unfortunately for us) did not. Their name was taken from "Mother Father Sister Brother", and many of their early albums are long out of print and almost impossible to find, especially in lossless. I have another five albums of MFSB from the seventies, if anyone's interested.
