Rick James proved with this album that, his usual problems with drugs abuse at that time did not reduce his ability to write great tunes. Specially remarkable is "Ebony Eyes", a ballad between him and Smokey Robinson, possibly the two least compatible male vocalists around, that proved a big hit. "New York Town" and "P.I.M.P The S.I.M.P."(featuring Grand Master Flash) were good examples that the P-Funk was still alive.
