Smooth Tannins is a new group of experienced players in the Pacific Northwest. We have dedicated our recording to the music we love….high energy smooth jazz with lots of funk and rock influence. Our original tunes display broad elements of the last century of American music. We love great grooves, complex rhythms, and memorable melody. Our strengths are found in things like rock solid time (thus…Lessons in Time), a wide variety of improvisational approaches, and a relentless pursuit of what the human ear loves.
The players are PJ Paul (bass), Brett DePew (percussion), Doug Wood (keyboards), Lane Sumner (guitars), and Don Wood (saxophones). We have a great time playing together and hope that you find lots of great surprises in this music. Indulge your ears.
